I recently spent 36 hours with NKBA Manhattan members at True Refrigeration, a family-owned business in St. Louis, Missouri. This privately held company has been around since just after World War II. True Refrigeration embodies the spirit of American ingenuity and manufacturing excellence. From its humble beginnings, True Refrigeration has grown into a respected American luxury appliance icon, producing some of the most high-end refrigeration products on the market. As a designer who believes in the value of premium appliances, I was struck by how closely True’s values align with my business ethics. True Refrigeration is setting the standard for what American manufacturing can and should be. Allow me to introduce True Refrigeration, a Luxury appliance icon.

True Refrigerating is continuing a proud family tradition, which began in Missouri in 1945. The company blends old-fashioned ingenuity with modern technological advancements. From mundane tasks being relegated to robotics to prevent burnout among employees, to cross-training in multiple departments, they have created an environment where human creativity and technological efficiency coexist harmoniously. This balance not only preserves jobs that require a human touch but also fosters a workplace culture where employees feel valued and engaged.

True Refrigeration: Commitment to Safety, Quality, and Production

Quality is not just a buzzword; it’s embedded in every stage of the manufacturing process. Multiple quality checks along the way, ensure that each product meets their rigorous standards. This attention to detail extends to safety as well.  Serviceable parts are designed to be easily accessed both in the field and during production. Such foresight not only enhances safety for users but also streamlines the work of those who build and service these products.

The company’s innovative spirit is evident in its approach to solving common challenges. For instance, to prevent damage from citric acid exposure in beverage centers, they apply an epoxy coating to condenser coils, ensuring longevity and resistance to corrosion. This proactive approach to potential problems highlights their forward-thinking mindset.

Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility

In an era where sustainability is more than a trend, this company stands out by integrating eco-friendly practices into its manufacturing processes. They have minimized the use of molded plastic materials, favoring more sustainable options for long-term reliability. Additionally, even the powder used in their powder coat booths is recycled, reflecting a commitment to reducing waste. Their dedication to sustainability doesn’t stop at production; it extends to packaging as well. Equipment is packed using recycled cardboard materials. At True they even custom-build their shipping boxes further reducing their environmental footprint.

True Refrigeration: Reliability Through Self-Sufficiency

In today’s global market, supply chain issues can cripple production. However, this company sidesteps these challenges by controlling their supply chain. From building their LED lights to managing material inventories, they ensure a steady flow of components and materials, allowing them to maintain production schedules and meet customer demands without delay.
