Glam Black Lacquer Powder Room
As the rest of the first floor of this home transformed from a traditional design theme of the previous owners, the client realized the powder room deserved the same design attention as the surrounding spaces. The non-descript fittings and fixtures, dull green walls and the terra colored floor tiles needed to go to take this room, full of potential from drab to fab. The inspiration for the room came from a black and bronze grass cloth in a geometric pattern found by the designer. An existing stained-glass window was replaced with a diffused glass awning window which allowed light in without needing a window treatment. Next recessed panel millwork and chair rail was added to the lower half of the wall and painted in a high gloss black lacquer. The mirror finish of the paint reflects the natural light coming in the room. A sculptural pedestal sink and streamlined toilet both in white stand out against the black. The upper walls covered in grass cloth with bronze accents provide the perfect balance to the black millwork. Crown molding painted to match the millwork creates a frame for a bronze and gold faux painted ceiling. A whimsical round mirror off sets the geometric wall covering and crystal bubble glass light fixtures complete the story.
