News from the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show
In late spring, I had the pleasure of attending the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), an international trade event focused exclusively on all aspects of kitchens and baths. Attendees include kitchen and bath dealers, designers, architects, remodelers, wholesalers and custom builders.
There were lots of exciting new trends. Here are a few of the highlights:
- In fixtures and trims, satin nickel is taking a backseat to polished nickel.
- LED lighting creates beautiful ambiance with illuminated shelving, backsplashes and even shower walls. The embedded LEDs emit light from the panels in all directions. Other LED news includes a universal, world-wide power system where switches, lights and drivers are "plug and play."
- For countertops, solid surface options made from natural quartz, such as CaesarStone and Cambria, offer the look of granite but are easier to maintain. They are a particularly good choice for bathrooms because they are nonporous and do not stain easily.
- There is a return to traditional kitchen cabinetry but with contemporary accessories. Look for more curves, warmer finishes and wood turnings with metal accents.
- Teak is the hot new wood for cabinetry.
- Upscale toilets feature advanced comfort technologies, such as sound systems, heated seats, built-in deodorizing systems, automatic seat and flushing systems, and dual nozzle bidets.
- Shower news includes flushmount body sprays from Moen that fit cleanly against the wall to seamlessly blend with tile, slate or other premium shower surround materials, and the Delta H2Okinetic shower line that is designed to use less water. Because the shower head moves as the water comes out, it seems like a stronger water pulse.
- Bamboo is showing up everywhere—in bathroom vanities, kitchen cabinets, flooring, and accessories.
- Hydrotherapy and chromo therapy innovations for showers and tubs enhance the spa experience in your bath.
